What is Xylitol Birch Sugar?

It is a sugar alcohol (or polyol) obtained from the bark of the birch tree, but also found naturally in some fruits, cereals and vegetables.

It tastes sweet and its digestibility is low, which is why we can absorb very little of it. It is therefore a very low-calorie type of carbohydrate.

  • Possibility for use in the diabetic diet: As it does not contain glucose, xylitol does not require insulin to be metabolised and therefore does not compromise the health of diabetic or glucose-intolerant people.
